The DLP Features You Requested…Delivered

Learn about DLP 16.0 Release Update 2

One of the most rewarding (and challenging) aspects of being a Product Manager is deciding what features to include in product releases. After all, we want customers to reap the most valuable benefits from the changes we introduce. Developing DLP 16.0 Release Update 2 (RU2) has been an utter delight, as we're delivering top-requested features pulled directly from customer wish lists and that align with customer strategies and business needs. This update also includes all the changes we’ve ever made to DLP 16 and greatly enhances the user experience. If you haven't made the change to DLP 16.0 or are looking for the latest version, DLP 16.0 RU2 is where to start!

To get a sense of the improvements available, let’s dive into some of the most requested and powerful changes.

Expanded DLP coverage increases data protection

One of our main goals is to broaden DLP coverage on endpoint devices so our customers can extend protection across their environment. With DLP 16.0 RU2, we have extended your coverage by:

  • Adding support for Entra ID-joined Windows endpoint devices: Symantec DLP policies are now supported on Entra ID-joined (formerly known as Azure AD) Windows 11 endpoint devices with hybrid user accounts. Organizations transitioning to a hybrid AD model can extend their DLP DGM policies to Entra-joined devices—provided the Entra ID mirrors the on-prem AD.
  • New Outlook for Windows endpoint support: Many of our customers are rolling out the new Outlook mode that Microsoft recently previewed. To keep you seamlessly in sync, we've added DLP support in preview to monitor the new Outlook mode on Windows endpoint devices. We recommend exploring this feature in your test environment and sharing feedback with us.

Enhanced workflow management makes your day simpler

In DLP 16.0 RU2, we simplified daily operations and workflow management for incident remediators by adding new elements to the Enforce console, including—

  • New incident snapshot page: Access incident details from a modernized user interface (UI) that now supports over 10 new incident attributes like file attachment size, messageID and network domain. We've also improved user experience with easier access to all critical details within an incident snapshot on the Enforce management console.
  • End User Remediation enhancements: To give end user remediators more visibility and context around DLP email incidents, we now display the email message body during remediation, via End User Remediation (EUR). EUR, our in-house application built on ServiceNow, enables DLP incident delegation to end users or their line managers  to decentralize incident remediation.
  • UI enhancements: We have been gathering feedback from our customers and incorporating changes in the Enforce management console to simplify the life of remediators. The new changes are:
    • The ability to select, filter and summarize incidents based on additional attributes such as recipient name, file name and messageID.
    • Column preferences are saved in customized incident reports, a capability previously limited to Out of The Box ‘System Reports’.
    • Column width adjustments now persist across incident reports, significantly easing usability when navigating pages across the Enforce management console.
    • Easier access to similar incidents with bulk remediation of a group of similar incidents.

Wider platform support and new APIs

We have also invested in enhancing both our platform and API support to strengthen the data security program.

  • Introducing new APIs: To give our customers programmatic control over DLP and deeply integrate our solution into their data security fabric and DevOps process, we've enhanced and added new APIs in DLP 16.0 RU2. For instance, customers can now trigger EDM indexing on demand without logging into the Enforce management console, ensuring their policies stay up to date. They can also use APIs to update advanced server settings, delete older system events and leverage Kerberos or certificate based authentication to better manage their DLP deployment.
  • Expanded platform support: Lastly, we added platform support for RHEL 8 and RHEL 9 with DLP 16.0 RU2.

Packed with features that deliver immediate value, DLP 16.0 RU2 is a release to reckon with and will be the version of choice for customers looking to upgrade. DLP 16.0 RU2 was released on 3 May 2024 and is available to all customers who use DLP Core (or the applicable sub-components) at no extra charge.
